In the slums a pregnancy is often treated as a closed file. The girl leaves school. The boy disappears. The household counts another mouth. Mercy For Life Africa refuses that arithmetic.
Our counselling sits with teenage mothers who have been told they are finished. We speak against panic that leads to unsafe choices. After delivery we do the unglamorous work: fees, uniforms, a place to leave the baby, a teacher who will take her back.
The photograph of a girl at a desk is not a campaign. It is the ordinary miracle we are trying to make ordinary — a second chance that looks like homework.
